TORONTO, 30 April 2008: Propeller Centre for the Visual Arts is soon to present Décollage, a solo exhibition featuring the recent collages of Holly Wheatcroft. Paint, linen, canvas and a herringbone motif come together in these works to create abstract compositions of balance and structure.

Décollage is a French word which means to take off, as in an airplane. It has been chosen as the exhibition’s title as a metaphor for the artist’s first show in Toronto since moving from Montreal. In addition, in Art History the term has been used to describe art created by cutting, tearing away or removing pieces of an original image. Holly Wheatcroft uses this technique of décollage by incorporating pieces of her earlier paintings into her collages.

The exhibition runs from Wednesday May 28 to Sunday June 8, 2008.
The opening reception will take place Thursday, May 29 at 7 pm.
